Andy Goldsworthy
Andy Goldsworthy OBE (born 26 July 1956) is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site-specific sculptures and land art situated in natural and urban settings. He lives and works in Scotland. In 1993, he received an honorary degree from the University of Bradford. He was an A.D. White Professor-At-Large in Sculpture at Cornell University 2000–2006 and 2006–2008. Photography plays a crucial role in his art due to its often ephemeral and transient state. According to Goldsworthy, "Each work grows, stays, decays – integral parts of a cycle which the photograph shows at its heights, marking the moment when the work is most alive. There is an intensity about a work at its peak that I hope is expressed in the image. Process and decay are implicit."Goldsworthy produced a commissioned work for the entry courtyard of San Francisco's De Young Museum called "Drawn Stone", which echoes San Francisco's frequent earthquakes and their effects. His installation included a giant crack in the pavement that broke off into smaller cracks, and broken limestone, which could be used for benches. The smaller cracks were made with a hammer adding unpredictability to the work as he created it. Goldsworthy is represented by Galerie Lelong, New York and Paris. Richard Long Several of his works were based around At Houghton Hall in Norfolk, the Marquess of Cholmondeley commissioned a sculpture to the east of the house. Long's land art there consists of a circle of Cornish slate at the end of a path mown through the grass.Permanent installations include Riverlines at the Hearst Tower this was at the time the biggest wall work he had ever made); Planet Circle (1991) at the Museum De Pont in Tilburg, Netherlands; in the Hallen für Neue Kunst Schaffhausen, Switzerland; and White Water Falls (2012) in the Garvan Institute in Sydney, Australia. In 2009, a retrospective of Long’s work entitled "Heaven and Earth," appeared at the Tate Britain.that he has made, and as well as land based natural sculpture, he uses the mediums of photography, text and maps of the landscape he has walked over.In his work, often cited as a response to the environments he walked in, the landscape would be deliberately changed in some way, as in A Line Made by Walking (1967), and sometimes sculptures were made in the landscape from At Houghton Hall in Norfolk, the Marquess of Cholmondeley commissioned a sculpture to the east of the house. Long's land art there consists of a circle of Cornish slate at the end of a path mown through the grass. |

RULE OF THIRDS
The rule of thirds is a way of composing a photograph, imagine a three by three grid to help compose a photograph and line up shots better, artists do this to make photos more interesting and varied. Here are some examples.

Framing
John Divola - Zuma Series
In all of these images, Divola uses abandoned buildings to show contrast between the outside and the inside. He always uses the use of open space and takes the photo looking out of a building

THE FORMAL ELEMENTS
In these tasks, we focus on some of the formal elements, a term used by artists, to refer to the elements within a composition and generally include the following: line, tone, pattern, texture etc.
